Pre-Press/Pre-Media File preparation is a key part of the printing process. While we are very flexible when it comes to working with your files, some formats produce better results than others. For page layout, our pre-press department prefers:
Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand: we can work with these files, but most clients design with this software and then bring .eps (Encapsulated PostScript) files into Quark. If you are designing packaging work, it's best to finish the project completely in either of these programs, since they work well with die-cut pieces. Adobe Photoshop: The preferred choice when it comes to color manipulation - please make sure you provide us with layered files. Microsoft Excel, Word, Publisher, etc.: These programs were not designed to be used in the graphics arts field, and often present re-flow and ripping challenges. Strange issues may occur, such as copy re-flowing or disappearing, fonts changing, and page sizes or artwork being altered. There are "work-arounds" with all Microsoft products, but usually at the cost of extra time on the print job. Portable Document Format (.pdf): If these files are prepared correctly, they can easily be dropped into Quark, or ripped directly from the PDF file. Changes to .pdf files are more difficult: while minor changes can be made in a program call Pitstop, most changes will need to be made by you. Pre-Press/Pre-Media Equipment
